Nice Things Others Have to Say:
|
Dr. William Brown – Washington DC
Wilson Perkowski is a warm and caring
woman who brings a depth of faith to
her professional life that allows her to
work with people wherever they are at
the moment. Working with the Diocese
of Lansing broadened her scope. She
gained experience in reaching out and
understanding others.
Linda S – Lansing, Michigan
Wilson Perkowski allows the Holy Spirit
to work through her to bring spiritual
healing which brings the realization of
God's forgiveness. Forgiveness from
God is ours for the asking but
forgiveness of self/others can be a
longer journey. She can lead the way.
She teaches others what God has
taught her.
Father Tom McDevitt - DeWitt, Michigan
I recommend Wilson Perkowski as
spiritual director. She has great
compassion and empathy for those with
whom she works. I find her to be a
most dedicated and hard working
director.

about the work of the
Catholic Woman's
Ministry I directed
Spiritual Direction is a ministry that many lay people, those who are not ordained ministries of a church, feel called by God to do.
Many spiritual directors in our area, (Lansing, Michigan), support themselves through their profession of Spiritual Direction by working in hospitals, retreats centers, in
parish settings, counseling groups, or in private practice. Spiritual Directors on a staff and in private practice will charge a standard fee for direction. The fees provide an
income for directors with families to support. These dedicated men and women feel the call of God to be at service to those seeking direction but put their trust in the
Gospel of Luke, 10:1-9, which says: "the worker deserves his wages."
The fees that are set are very reasonable, anyone can afford them, and considerations are made for those who truly cannot pay for direction. No one is ever turned away.
The ministry has credentials that one must obtain in order to practice spiritual direction. Intern Spiritual Directors spend an intensive two years learning and honing the
skills they will need for the ministry of Spiritual Direction. A student candidate must belong to a listening ministry to qualify for the program of Spiritual Direction. He or she
must have a degree in Social Work, Pastoral Counseling, or Community Counseling and have at least five years work experience to be accepted into the program. There
are many hours of theology, psychology, counseling, human emotional and spiritual development to be completed. There are hours spend in a practicum situation
learning, from a more experienced spiritual director, how one should be a director.
Spiritual Direction has comprehensive codes of behavior, and ethics that must be followed. Directors are required to follow any regulations, guidelines, and requirements
set by their Diocese. Here in Lansing we are required to go through the program at Saint Francis Religious Formation Center and participate in the Veritas Program
(Protecting God's Children). Directors in good standing take part in monthly peer supervision. Peer supervision helps directors understand themselves as ministers.
Peer supervision also helps Directors help each other achieve goals and stay on track as good and faithful servants to the brothers and sisters that come to them for
direction. Directors also see a spiritual director themselves on a monthly basis.
